	Why Do We Call it Candling?
	Eggs were being artificially incubated long before there was electricity. One only needs to experience a rotten egg that has exploded once to appreciate the value in being able to see “inside” before hatch time. Originally, eggs were held up to the flame of a candle to see inside - probably because candles provide a nice, small, intense source of light.
There is really no reason we can't still candle eggs using candles. All we need is a dark area, a candle, and something with a small hole in it like a piece of card-board. We hold up the card-board in front of the candle, then hold the egg in front of that. Presto: candler.
