The chinooks that have crests can trace them back to these birds.

Saxonies, April 2001. Notice the bird in the far back - this was believed to be hermaphroditic - 'she' quacked and acted like a duck, but has masculine colouring, AND the characteristically male curled tail feathers. To my knowledge, she never laid an egg. The duck in the foreground has a medium-sized crest.
