Eggheads

Grade 1-4

30 minutes

1. To make an egghead and watch seeds sprout.
2. To work with fine motor skills.
3. To create a finished product.

• fresh eggs (1/child)
• felt
• pens
• cotton
• balls
• alfalfa seeds

1. [TEACHER] Neatly cut 'top' off the large end of each egg.
2. Empty the shell and rinse it out (maybe save contents for lunch).
3. Have the children paint faces on the eggs (careful, they are very fragile).
4. Fill the shell loosely with cotton balls.
5. Sprinkle alfalfa seeds on top and moisten well.
6. Cover eggs with a small wad of cotton and place near a window - the seeds should sprout in a day or two and grow for 3-4 days.
